Event Type

This presentation highlights the changing role that the Thousand Steps has played since their creation and ponders their future. The geologic history of Jacks Mountain is first covered along with the quarrying operation that led to the Thousand Steps. Then the Standing Stone Trail is discussed and how the trail system acquired the steps along with what the future may be.

The Thousand Steps is rich in history, geology, and epitomizes the toil that immigrants contributed to America’s industrial revolution. As President of the Standing Stone Trail Club, George is intimately familiar with the area of Jack’s Narrows. Join him on Zoom to learn more about this fascinating area between Mount Union and Mapleton Depot, Pa.
